Looks like the Hotel de Crillion, in Paris, is about to become a luxury worldwide brand, thanks to the ex-Starwood Chief Barry Sternlicht. (WSJ, so registration required).
I have mixed feeling about this one. I am not the biggest fan of Starwood's vanilla-hip properties, and the Crillion's fustiness and anachronistic feeling was what made it enjoyable. Also, it had choice bathroom location in Paris, for those whow were properly dressed and looked like they belonged. The need for another "obscenely rich" hotel is beside the point; surely it will do just fine. Won't anyone tap the market in New York between Holiday Inn and 60 Thompson?
One can only assume that the Crillion in New York will not have a harpist, as they do in Paris.
Alex, is this your site? what up with the D coverage? you watch that super bowl? eh. I wasn't moved.

It's me. And the Bowl was totally flushable, I agree.

My personal experience was that the Crillion had the finest dining in Paris. You were made to feel as one of them, never an outsider.
My stay at the Ritz was somewhat disappointing. The food was mediocre, and the rooms small. On the other hand, the service and attention to detail were perfect.
